Upside Down and Inside Out

17 March 2012, 10.00am –1pm
Iffley Church Hall, Iffley Village, Oxford

This fun-filled and lighthearted 3 hour workshop focuses on helping to breakdown barriers to practicing inverted postures and balances. Come and explore your ability and fears around Yoga poses that take you gently upside down. Find out how these poses are created from core strength and intention. Safe, gentle, fun and deeply relaxing.

Workshop outline

Some of the most deliciously relaxing and profoundly nourishing Yoga poses take us upside down. When we rest with our heart below our head, we relax the circulatory system and heart and get all of the good feelings this promotes - a rested heart is a happy heart.

This morning focuses on a range of invigorating and restorative inverted postures and limb balances. Stages and options will be included so there will be nothing scary or beyond your natural ability.

|Postures include:

  • stages of the headstand, from building your strength to trying the pose (if you want to) or refining it if you already have a headstand practice
  • Stages of the shoulderstand and how to work with counter postures relating to it.
  • Simple and fun arm balances
  • Exploring balance in standing postures
  • How to use the breath to be stable and steady (on and off your mat!)
  • How we can build a vision of a pose to helps us toward the reality of it.
  • How to use your core and feel strong in more challenging poses

All of this takes place in the stunning environment of Iffley Church Hall. There will be breaks for tea (and biscuits, if that's your thing).

"From the very first Yoga session, people discover the intimacy that nature has established between awareness and physiology. Getting back in touch with this intimacy is very reassuring and delightful, particularly for people who have given up on exercise and become virtual strangers to their bodies"
