Yin Yoga: Going deep into the heart of posture

Thursdays 8–9.30pm, 11 weeks starting 12 January 2012*
Iffley Village Hall, Iffley Village
*Half-term break on 16 February 2012

About this course

Yin Yoga is a deep and slow practice whereby staying for some time in each asana and really ‘feeling’ your way in you learn more about your body and breath, and can observe how you respond mentally and emotionally to each posture.

The delight of this kind of practice is the deep stillness of mind that comes from learning to simply ‘be’ in each pose, and experience the asana as a ‘meditation’. In addition, Yin Yoga opens the body's connective tissues (such as ligaments and tendons), which is not often possible in a faster practice. That said, as a balance to the longer held poses and in order to prepare and warm up your body, each class will start with a flow of sun salutations and other vinyasas.
Classes will be held in the stunning location of Iffley Church Hall – ambient light, oak beams, peace and quiet.

This course will build on your existing experience of working with asanas and is therefore most suitable for students with some previous experience of Yoga (any style).

"From the very first Yoga session, people discover the intimacy that nature has established between awareness and physiology. Getting back in touch with this intimacy is very reassuring and delightful, particularly for people who have given up on exercise and become virtual strangers to their bodies"
